A New Year

Filled with Opportunities

December 30, 2010 (Thursday)
”picAs I read Acts 2:42-47, it occurred to me that the characteristics of the early church in Jerusalem could also describe what can happen in our lives in 2011. Here’s what the verses say: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
I can apply all these characteristics to my own personal life in 2011. Let’s look at them. There are nine.
1. I can avail myself of opportunities to be taught about spiritual things.
2. I can actively seek closer relationships with my fellow Christians.
3. I can spend more time in quality prayer.
4. I can have an open mind about God’s power to do the impossible.
5. I can be completely open to sharing my life and possessions with others.
6. I can faithfully attend the worship services of my church.
7. I can meet regularly with Christians for the purpose of helping each other draw near to Christ.
8. I can maintain a good reputation as a believer who cares about others.
9. I can be sensitive to opportunities of Christian witness.
May your new year be filled with opportunities to glorify Christ and serve him faithfully. May you draw near to him with your whole heart and may you experience the joys of knowing God.
Happy New Year.
