Psalm 24
October 7, 2010 (Thursday)
He is the King of Glory! As the Ark of the Covenant was brought into Jerusalem, they sang this antiphonally as they walked. It was Psalm 24:
“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. Who may ascend the hill of the LORD ? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty— he is the King of glory.”
Matt 4:10 “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matthew 4:10). God has the right to be worshiped by us. Why?
Because He created us. “O come, let us worship and bow down:let us kneel before the LORD our maker” (Psalm 95:6).
Because He redeemed us. He not only made us–He bought us. We are his purchased possession. He says in Isaiah 43:1, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; .. you are mine.” Paul reminds us of the practical application in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “You are not your own .. you have been bought with a price..therefore glorify God”
Because He is at work in our lives. He is with us, leading us daily. We all know and love Romans 8:28, “..we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God loves us. Have we thanked Him lately?
