Who is Jesus…

…to you?

”picAfter Jesus rose from the dead, he made a number of appearances throughout the next forty days before He ascended to His Father. One of the first was to a couple of disciples walking down the road to Emmaus. They didn’t recognize him, but when He began quoting Scriptures, they paid close attention, because He was showing them how those Scriptures (from what we call our Old Testament) were speaking of Him. After a while, He went His way and the two disciples began to realize that the stranger on the road had been none other than Jesus, their Master.
Not everyone agrees that Jesus is the Son of God and our Savior. That should not surprise us, because not everyone believed in Him when He was here in the flesh. “Some said he was a good man; others that he deceived the people” (John 7:12). In the same way, people in our day disagree about Jesus. Some say He was only a man, a good teacher, or an honored prophet. Some go further and say all religion is bad, including beliefs about Jesus. Others will gladly testify that Jesus is their best friend.
In light of all the opinions about Him, Jesus asked His disciples, “Whom do you say that I am?” Peter spoke the truth when He declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!”
“Who is Jesus?” is a great question, but perhaps an even more relevant question is, “Who is Jesus to you?” Is He Lord of your life? Some folks know all the historical facts about Jesus, but have never surrendered to His authority over their lives. In today’s world of information overload, I can know a lot about some people I have never met. The good news for each of us is that we can actually meet Jesus and know Him personally. Only then will we truly know who Jesus really is.
