A very beautiful song often heard in the past is “Satisfied with Jesus.” When we sang it or heard it we were reminded that the Lord is always with us and promises to answer all our prayers. He is the only Savior and satisfies with the joy he supplies. Christians, nonetheless, want to know Jesus better with each passing day. This song reflects that desire.
Years ago, Dr. George W. Truett, prince of preachers, published a sermon entitled, “How May I Know Jesus Better?” In that matchless message, he suggested several specific activities that would help us in our quest to grow in love for Christ. “More About Jesus” is a song that reveals a longing in our hearts to walk more closely with Christ day by day, seeking to know him better, . This hymn encourages us toward a closer walk with the Lord.
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13 KJV). Many a sermon has been preached from this text, reminding us Christians that we should have a deep desire to let others see Jesus in us. “More about Jesus would I know, more of His grace to others show.”
More About Jesus
Words: Eliza E. Hewitt
Music: John R. Sweney
1887
Chorus:
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
(Chorus)
More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His holy will discern;
Spirit of God, my teacher be,
Showing the things of Christ to me.
(Chorus)
More about Jesus in His Word,
Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing His voice in ev’ry line,
Making each faithful saying mine.
(Chorus)
More about Jesus on His throne,
Riches in glory all His own;
More of His kingdom’s sure increase;
More of His coming, Prince of peace.
(Chorus)
