Declaring the Glory of God
June 22, 2010 (Tuesday)
Live and learn. I’m sure all of you already knew all about the “Southern Lights,” recently photographed from the space station. I confess I never heard of them and never once wondered if they existed, like the “Northern Lights.” But they are there. And the pictures are very interesting: green ribbons of light over Australia, photographed from the other side, looking down at earth.
I saw the pictures on the Internet, and in typical web fashion, the photos were followed by comments from viewers. Some of them made sense. One writer decided to joke about them, and wrote “Is it just me, or does anyone else see Mother Teresa holding a rabbit?” At least I think he was joking. But who knows? Maybe he was serious. You never know, these days.
I’ve never seen the Northern Lights or the Southern Lights. I’ve only seen pictures, but they are spectacular. Knowing the scientific explanation of their existence does not in any way diminish their reflection of God’s glory. We see God in His creation.
