Seven Walks

David Fake is the oldest child in our family. He is 65 years old, but I remember when he was born and I have a vivid memory of his first steps as he learned to walk. We were actually ready with the camera when he walked on his own for the first time. It was a big moment for us, but I think it was a bigger moment for him. As he grew, he learned to walk with more confidence. The other four children followed in his footsteps, as they also learned to walk. They are no longer children and today walking is a natural function for them. The Christian life is like that; at first we stumble and sometimes fall, but as we grow in Christ, we learn to walk without having to measure each step. D.L. Moody, the great evangelist of yesteryear, gave us an outline for the Christian walk.

THE SEVEN “WALKS” OF EPHESIANS By D. L. Moody

I. The walk of obedience
“And He has made you alive, who were once dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:1-2)

II. Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called
“I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the calling with which you are called.” (Ephesians. 4:1)

III. Walk in love
“And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given Himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.” (Ephesians 5:2)

IV. Walk circumspectly
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.” (Ephesians 5:15)

V. Walk not as other Gentiles walk
“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should not walk from now on as other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind.” (Ephesians 4:17)

VI. Walk as children of light
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)

VII. Let us walk in good works
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2: 10)
