Wanna go somewhere?

Will any old place do?

picture of CharlesWhile cruising the web, I ran across an ad that offered round trip fares for $78. The ad did not reveal the destination of the cheap trip. Are there really a lot of people who are willing to take a trip to somewhere—anywhere—just because the fare is fairly cheap?
Here’s what I read recently: “There has got to be something better than this out here for me. Someplace in my head that is better than where I am at. I can’t do this anymore. So it’s time for me to go. It’s just time for me to give up on everyone else but Me.” The person who wrote this was considering a move. I don’t know the circumstances of the person’s life, but there are many people like him/her today.
Makes me think of Jonah. God had plans for him, plans he didn’t ask for or want. So Jonah just started traveling in the opposite direction from the one God had chosen for him. He went west until he ran out of land, then he boarded a ship that was going somewhere else. I’m not sure Jonah knew the destination. He just felt that any place would be better than where he was.
When people try to run away from their problems, they usually find that their biggest problem is self. You can’t run away from yourself. You are going to have to live with yourself, no matter what.
So, before you try the geographical solution to your problems, try to find out what you are running from. If you can make peace with yourself, you may save yourself $78 plane fare.
