..What a friend we have..

A true friend is one of life’s greatest treasures.

July 12, 2007 (Thursday) – Last night at the Wednesday evening worship
service, I gave a little talk about friends. Three thoughts about friends were
found in the Book of Proverbs in the Bible:
1. The True Friend
Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times”
A true friend is a friend always.
2. The Friend Who Sticks with You
Proverbs 18:24 – “There is a friend who sticks closer
than a brother”
Friends are sometimes closer than family
3. The Friend Who Wounds
Proverbs 27:6 “Wounds from a friend can be trusted”
Real friends are honest with each other because they
genuinely want what is best for the other person
I mentioned that Christians are part of a new family of friends in
Christ. I also emphasized that Jesus is our friend.

June Stamps graciously shared this poem with me after church,
which is God’s personal promise to you:
“When you are sad, I will dry your tears.
When you are scared, I will comfort your fears.
“When you are worried, I will give you hope.
When you are confused, I will help you cope.
“And when you are lost, and can’t see the light,
I shall be your beacon, shining ever so bright.
“This is my oath, I pledge till the end.
‘Why?’ you may ask. Because you’re my friend.”

A true friend is one of life’s greatest treasures. No treasure
could be as valuable as having the Lord as your dearest friend.
