How well are we living?
November 23, 2009 (Monday)
For some unknown reason, I got to thinking about Mickey Rooney recently. He is 89 years old and has six movies in production or ready to be released. His parents were actors and he has been in show business literally all his life. His sheet in the movie data base seems to be longer than anyone else’s. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001682/#actor1920
His movie parts run the gamut from child to grandfather. Besides that, he seems to be a nice man as well as a talented person. He has played parts that are comical and parts that are serious. What an interesting career he has had.
I wonder if he ever just sits down to think about his life of almost 90 years. I know I think about what I have done with the 78 years I have had as a gift from God.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Tim 4:7 NIV). In one sentence, he evaluated his life. He died soon afterwards at age 66. Converted at 33, instructed to wait at Tarsus until he was 44 before beginning his ministry at Antioch, Paul crammed a lifetime of service into 22 years of changing the world for Christ. It may be a cliché, but oh, so true: “It’s not how long, but how well you live that matters.”
