..life moves along..

Time seems to move faster as we grow older

June 30, 2007 (Saturday) – It’s hard to believe that we reach the last day of June today. There can be no doubt that our perception of time changes as we move from childhood to maturity. Do you remember, as a child of five or six, what a long time it was from one Christmas to the next? It seems like the longer we live, the more often Christmas comes around. And everything else. Life seems to move along much faster for senior citizens than it does for kids. Studies are going on to try and find out just why this perception exists. Many explanations are offered, but none of them are conclusive, although all of them are fascinating.
The fact is, an hour is an hour, and is scientifically determined. Atomic clocks continually measure time and their reckonings are totally accurate. While that may be so, one hour in church on Sunday morning is a short time when you are preaching, but an eternity if you are five years old.
The sobering thought for us is that God is very interested in what we do with whatever amount of time we have. As Paul put it, “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10 NIV).”
A grand old hymn that is scarcely ever sung nowadays, has this message: “There’s a great day coming, a great day coming, There’s a great day coming by and by; When the saints and the sinners shall be parted right and left, Are you ready for that day to come? Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready for the judgment day? Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready for that day to come?”
