Winning the Prize

My 700th blog

picture of CharlesI was watching “Wheel of Fortune” Tuesday and saw a lady win more than one million dollars! The show was a rerun from nearly a year ago, but new to me, so very exciting to see. The statistical probability of her doing that is very, very low. But everything fell into place and the elusive prize came to her. The winner was Michelle Loewenstein, a 24-year-old newlywed. She and her new husband had just got back from their honeymoon. She was the first person to win the prize.
Paul spoke about winning a prize. Does that surprise you? Here’s what he said: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize” (1 Cor 9:24-27 NIV).
We relive the excitement and enthusiasm of those ancient races every four years at the Olympics, now available via television for the whole world to see.
Some day all you who are “running for Christ” are going to appear at the finish line and join him in the winner’s circle. He’s going to crown you and shower you with his beautiful praise, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Life gets hard sometimes, but that’s all part of the race of life. “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus.”
