He’s the greatest!

Father’s Day has come and gone, but it set me to thinking about our Heavenly Father, especially about our understanding of him. There are a few things we need to know about our Heavenly Father.
He is stronger than we are. He has taught us this lesson time after time, as we have come up against situations we could not handle, problems we could not solve, battles we lost, temptations that overcame us, and trials that devastated us. If, in any of those scenarios, we felt our weakness, we also learned that God is greater than we are. We instinctively felt that he is stronger than we are. We knew we must recognize his authority and we learned he has the right to guide our moral decisions. Hopefully, we learned to worship him.
He is smarter than we are. His data base is infinitely fuller and more detailed than ours. He knows everything. He is a true “know-it-all.” We wonder, in our saner moments, how we could have questioned the knowledge and wisdom of God. He created everything and sustains it all. As Jesus pointed out, he dresses up the lilies of the field. A delightful verse of Scripture tells us the “the foolishness of God is wiser than men.” We do well to depend upon our Heavenly Father; he knows better than we.
He is more softhearted than we are. He is the creator and ruler of the universe, and has committed its judgment to his son. Yet his mercy and grace are greater than any love we have ever known as humans. He loves us so much that he gave up his son for us. As Paul exclaimed, “God loves us so much that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!” Our God –stronger and smarter than we are—is full of compassion for a world that needs him. He is our Heavenly Father.
