..tired but happy..

I am back in Rockport after an eleven-day trip to Houston and Groesbeck

June 23, 2007 (Saturday) – I am back in Rockport. Drove in Friday around 6:30 p.m. I drove from Houston to Groesbeck Thursday, made a couple of 40-mile round trips to the Walston home Thursday and Friday, then from Groesbeck to Houston Friday afternoon. I hate to say it, but I’m tired. I do miss my youth, when such a trip would have been as nothing. In Groesbeck I conducted Clarence Walston’s funeral, with his pastor. Clarence was my brother-in-law, the husband of Wanda’s sister, Ann. Wanda and I were at their wedding 52 years ago, and provided the music for the ceremony. Ann was Maid of Honor at our wedding the previous year.
Funerals are permeated with an air of sadness because we have lost someone dear to us, yet there is the hint of gladness through it all, because we are getting to see our relatives and friends. It is a strange atmosphere, isn’t it? The reunion portion of the event reminds us that a day is coming when we shall be reunited with our loved ones in Heaven. Reminds me of an old song, “Won’t It Be Wonderful There?”
Dianna sent out an email today, telling us that both she and Mark are doing well. Mark is still experiencing at lot of pain, but he never says anything about it. Dianna’s pain has gradually diminished, although she tires very easily. They are both on the road to recovery now. She will find out July 5 whether she will receive radiation treatments.
I am very grateful to Gains and Jonathan for conducting the worship services and other meetings while I was with Dianna and Mark and their family. I know they both did great jobs. I look forward to the worship services this weekend.
