God hears our prayers

Let us pray for our leaders

picture of CharlesSeveral prestigious newspapers run a column entitled, “Obama: The First Hundred Days.” Mad Magazine’s current cover is entitled, “Obama: the first hundred minutes,” and pictures him frustrated, mouth filled with cigarettes, his desk bedecked with Pepto Bismol and Excedrin, newspapers with disastrous headlines, etc.
Nobody said it would be easy, this being President of the U.S.A. Just ask any ex-president, each of which left office with gray hair.
Hence, the call to prayer. The times demand it. Whoever the president is, he needs our prayers. To paraphrase Mordecai, “Who knows but what you are alive today for such a time as this, because you know how to pray?”
God hears us when we pray. He wants us to pray. His Word urges us to pray for our leaders.
God answers prayer. Remember Dunkirk? If you are too young to remember it, surely you have read about it. In 1940, British, French and Canadian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the Second World War. The core of the British Army was stranded. The capture or destruction of those troops seemed inevitable. The fate of the free world hung in the balance. Over a ten day period, 338,226 soldiers were evacuated in “the miracle of the little ships,” as 860 vessels of every kind, some as small as 15 feet, were put into service by civilians and the military. A thick fog settled over the area, hiding the rescue from the enemy. In spite of the loss of ships and planes and heroic men and women, it’s hard not to believe it was an answer to prayer.
So, please pray for this troubled world and its leaders. Perhaps you are among those who are extremely worried about the future. Remember how God has helped us in spite of what may have seemed like hopeless situations. God hears and answers prayer.
