God keeps His promises
January 6, 2009 (Tuesday)
When His disciples were worried about their lack of bread one day, Jesus reminded them of a pair of miracles in which he fed thousands of people with lots of bread left over. There seems to be a hint of exasperation in His words as He recites the details of the miraculous provisions of bread in the past, and then he pointedly asked, “Do you remember?” (Mark 8:18).
Many are worried about the financial troubles of the world as we leave 2008 behind and move into 2009. To us who are concerned, Jesus asks, “Do you remember?”
Do you remember your past help? Jesus was with you in your sorrow and comforted you. He was by your side in the hour of temptation and you overcame. He was by your bedside in your illness. He helped you solve many problems. He encouraged you to keep going against all odds. Do you remember?
Do you remember your past victories? God answered your prayers. He helped you as pointed people to faith in Him as the answer to their questions. He used you to touch other lives in ever so helpful ways. God used you to alleviate the suffering of someone in some way, directly or indirectly. Do you remember?
Do you remember His promises to you? He promised to supply all your needs (Phil. 4:19), to give what is good to those who ask Him (Matt. 7:11), to provide for all your needs as you serve Him in His Kingdom activities (Matt. 6:33), and to relieve the anxieties of your heart and mind (Matt. 6:34; Phil 4:6). He has promised never to leave or forsake you (Heb. 13:5).
O.K. 2009, bring it on. We don’t know what you have in store for us, but we remember how God has blessed in the past, we know God keeps His promises for the future, and we are not afraid.
