Give Him priority
October 18, 2008 (Saturday)
In these troubled times, many are concerned about their financial security and the possible loss of possessions. Jesus spoke to those concerns when he said, “Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33 NIV).
Specifically, what are the interests of the kingdom of God? I’d like to name five things we should keep as priorities as we surrender ourselves to the King’s reign in our hearts.
Seek Prayer. We need a greater dependence on prayer. It is God’s power that we need in our lives.
Seek Fellowship. As Christians we all are “members of one another”
(Eph 4:5 KJV). Our mission is to spread love and to begin by loving each other.
Seek godly living. Let the Spirit produce the Christian life in you by enabling you to bear fruit: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Seek caring. Within the church there are tired, cynical, anxious and lonely people who need brothers and sisters in Christ who care. Outside the church the multitudes grope in darkness and many have never known what it’s like to be loved. We need to care.
Seek God Himself. Many in today’s world do not seek God at all. This is our great privilege, because we know Him personally. Yet we want to know Him better each day. Let us seek Him.
Seek spiritual things, and God will supply the material things. This is His promise to His children.
