Claim His Peace

Peace is Yours

picture of CharlesWhy did the stock market fall so drastically Monday? Fear. Many people were afraid the value of their stocks would fall after the House of Representatives did not pass the economic legislation proposed by the Administration and amended by the House. So they sold their stocks hopefully before the price fell.
Another question: Why did the stock market regain most of its losses Tuesday? Faith. Many people believe there is no reason to be afraid of the future, and they cannot pass up a bargain. Some of them made a lot of money yesterday.
Here we are again, somewhat confused and wondering what is happening. World markets are shaken and some shut down. They are waiting to see what the United States will do to alleviate the credit crunch, which seems to be the real problem we are trying to solve.
We as Christians do not need to know what the problem is, or how to solve it, in order to have peace of mind. Jesus gave us peace a long time ago. It is His gift to us as His children. Peace of mind and heart is our birthright because God is our Father.
A gospel song expresses our feelings today:

Our God hath given promise
And His grace for this hath planned:
His child shall rest securely
In the hollow of His hand.

Let come what may, or wave or tempest,
“Peace, be still!” ‘tis His command;
My soul is held in peace eternal
In the hollow of His hand.
