“Honor the LORD with your wealth” (Prov 3:9)

Let God be your financial advisor

picture of CharlesProverbs 3:9 says, “Honor the LORD with your wealth.” Here’s a suggestion: Let God be your financial advisor.
Let God advise you on how to make your money. His advice: make it honestly, with integrity. Work hard and show initiative. Make it in such a way that you will not hurt others in the process. Be careful, because we live in a complex society that may compromise your beliefs.
Let God advise you on how to spend your money. Christian stewardship involves 100% of your material possessions. Don’t buy things that are harmful and hurtful to yourself or others. Don’t waste your money. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Provide for your family. Don’t hoard resources that may be needed now to alleviate suffering of self or family. Remember to save some of everything that comes your way. Remember to leave some behind to be used in the Lord’s work.
Let God advise you on how to give your money. Let the tithe be your minimum gift to your church. Let special offerings and gifts to others come from funds over and above your tithe. God has promised to bless those who take Him at His Word: “’Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it’” (Malachi 3:10 NIV).
We should care about these matters, because all we are and have belongs to the Lord. We love Him, because He first loved us. Do you love Him?
