The Tower of Babel symbolizes for all time the foolishness of leaving God out of our thoughts and plans. Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). If we are to be successful with God, we must not allow ourselves to let Him become an afterthought.

There is an unusual story in Genesis 11, about the building of a tower. It was the Tower of Babel, and its builders assured themselves of failure because of their ungodly attitude about it.
Seems the entire earth was of the same language and the decision was made to build this huge tower as a monument to the glory of mankind. Their mistake was in giving God no glory at all. The theme was, “Glory to man in the highest!”
In order to stop the work on the monument, God caused them to begin speaking new languages so that they could not understand each other, and therefore the project was brought to a halt. They had devised their own plan without asking God about it. That’s always a mistake for us. We need to seek the will of God as we make important decisions in life.
They evidently had forgotten how powerful God is. They did not foresee his method in stopping the work. As they tried to communicate, they were dumfounded by the many languages being spoken, and stopped the work. Soon they dispersed to other locations.
