King David wanted to build a temple for God, but was told that his son, Solomon, was God’s choice as the builder. During the dedication, Solomon prayed a prayer to be remembered by generations to come. After the dedication of the Temple, God spoke to King Solomon. Among other things, He told Solomon this:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV).
Yesterday we celebrated our independence as a nation. When the Declaration of Independence was signed by our leaders, we announced to Great Britain and the world that we wanted to take our place among the family of nations. It was one thing to want it, another to actually have it. That announcement was made in 1776, but it would take years to gain that independent status. The Revolutionary war took years to fight, but by the year 1789, we had a nation with a constitution and a president. We took our place among the great nations of the world and today, 243 years later, we have become a powerful nation.
Many of us, however, believe that the United States of America needs a rededication to spiritual values and belief in Almighty God. We need a revival. The prescription for spiritual renewal is found in God’s word, specifically in 2 Chronicles 7:14, quoted at the top of this blog.
We must see this need and realize that a spiritual awakening must begin somewhere with somebody. I believe it must begin right here, right now, with me. Each of us must feel that burden, humble ourselves, confess our sins, seek God’s face, pray and turn from our wicked ways. Each of us should pray, “Lord, send a revival, and let it begin in me.”
LORD, SEND A REVIVAL
Author: B.B. McKinney
1927
Send a revival O Christ my Lord
Let it go over the land and sea
Send it according to Thy dear Word
And let it begin in me
Chorus:
Lord send a revival
Lord send a revival
Lord send a revival
And let it begin in me
Send a revival among Thine own
Help us to turn from our sins away
Let us get nearer the Father’s throne
Revive us again we pray – Chorus
Send a revival to those in sin
Help them O Jesus to turn to Thee
Let them the new life in Thee begin
Oh give them the victory – Chorus
Send a revival in every heart
Draw the world nearer O Lord to Thee
Let the salvation true joy impart
And let it begin in me – chorus
Revive Us Again
Words,William P. Mackay
Music, John J. Husband
circa 1880
We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.:
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who has taken our sins,
And has cleansed every stain.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
