Last Sunday the Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside, where I preach each Sunday, was blessed by the presence of at least two full rows of people who are in South Texas to help those still needing shelter, almost 1 1/2 years after Hurricane Harvey. They were volunteers from the Mennonite Disaster Service, taking time to worship before going back the next day to fulfill the challenge made to themselves: Respond. Rebuild. Restore.
A number of disaster services representing many religious denominations and churches have been working in this area, and will continue as long as there are needs to be met. I have several very good friends involved in the Baptist Men Disaster Services.
Hats off to all who volunteer to help others. This is what Jesus said he would bring up at the final judgment when he will say to those on His right hand, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me…Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” (Matthew 25 NKJV).
I love it when Christians of many faiths get together for worship or Christian service. Jesus loves it, too. He prayed for his followers to become one, just as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are One.

Only to be what He wants me to be,
Every moment of every day,
Yielded completely to Jesus alone
Every step of this pilgrim way.
Just to be clay in the Potter’s hands,
Ready to do what His will demands
Only to be what He wants me to be,
Every moment of every day.
