..grandpa to be the minister..

I will perform the wedding.

MAY 24, 2007 (THURSDAY) – I plan to be in Houston when you read this, because our family has a wedding rehearsal in League City this evening. My grand daughter, Jennifer Fake (David and Janet’s daughter) will marry Stephen Haden, whom she has known most of her life, tomorrow night. I will perform the wedding.
I performed the wedding for her sister, Melinda, who married John Hodges, her lifelong friend, in July of 2005. Mindy and John live in San Marcos, where they graduated from Texas State University. John teaches school and Melinda is employed in a library.
I am honored that these two beautiful young ladies have asked their grandpa to be the minister for their weddings. Not everyone gets to see their grand children get married. I am fortunate, indeed, not only to see it, but to have a part in it, a high honor for me, indeed.
We know the importance of family from our earliest days, but somehow growing older helps us to grasp just how important our families are to us, and how much we truly love each and every family member. Quite literally, we are part of each other.
A great preacher of the past, in a sermon about Adam and Eve, said that God announced to Adam that he was going to create a companion for him with these words: “In your heart I can see you are a family man.” And he was. So are we. Thank you, Lord, for our families. May we do all we can, depending on you, to see that our familes become all you have intended them to be.
