Twas A Glad Day

A little girl wandered away from her family and no one could find her. Search parties were organized; friends and family joined hands and hearts in a desperate attempt to find the little one. Her father went into the woods searching every trail, praying for guidance as to which path to follow. Suddenly, he came upon the child he loved so much, and found her sleeping as the base of a tree. He knelt beside her and took her in his arms, weeping with joy. She spoke, “Oh, Daddy, I found you! I found you!” Who found who?
This song is 100 years old, and its words still express the great joy that one experiences when he realizes that Jesus has been seeking him and has finally found him. I hear an echo of the hymn that goes, “Life now is sweet and my joy is complete for I’m saved! saved! saved!
Sorry I could not find a choir, solo, trio, quartet or any other vocal arrangement, but you might like to sing along with the piano.

‘TWAS A GLAD DAY WHEN JESUS FOUND ME
Albert S. Reitz (1879-1966)
1918

I was lost in sin when Jesus found me,
But He rescued me, all glory to His name!
And the cords of worldly pleasure bound me,
Till He saved me from sin and shame.
Refrain
‘Twas a glad day when Jesus found me,
When His strong arms were thrown around me;
When my sins He buried in the deepest sea,
And my soul He filled with joy and victory.
‘Twas a glad day, O hallelujah!
‘Twas a glad day He claimed His own.
I will shout a glad hosanna in glory
When I see Him upon His throne.
O the bells of Heaven now are ringing,
For I hear their tones within my ransomed soul;
And my heart is filled with joyful singing
Since the Savior has made me whole.
Refrain
O the joy when we shall meet in glory,
In the mansions of my Father’s home above;
And through endless ages tell the story
Of the Savior’s redeeming love.
Refrain
