Marvin P. Dalton wrote several wonderful songs about Jesus and the salvation He offers to all who will believe. This song, written in 1948, only 70 years ago, has a history of popularity among groups who sing the gospel. During the 1950s it was extremely well known and loved by Christians. It still carries a message of thanksgiving to the Lord for saving us.
Oh, What a Savior!
Marvin P. Dalton
1948
Once I was straying in sin’s dark valley
No hope within could I see
They searched through Heaven
And found a Savior
To save a poor lost soul like me.
O what a Savior, O hallelujah
His heart was broken on Calvary
His hands were nail scarred
His side was riven
He gave His life-blood for even me.
Death’s chilly water I’ll soon be crossing
His hand will lead me safe o’er
I’ll join the chorus in that great city
And sing up there for evermore.
O what a Savior, O hallelujah
His heart was broken on Calvary
His hands were nail scarred
His side was riven
He gave His life-blood for even me.
