Age-related Issues

My blog on my birthday a few days ago jokingly dealt with my physical condition as a senior citizen.
I have reached an age that requires my being alert to possible dangers as I walk, outside or inside. A friend told me the other day that her doctor had told her to pick up her feet, because older people tend to drag them a bit. I broke my wrist in a fall a year or so ago. My doctor told me always to carry a cane to help me maintain good balance to keep from falling. I have not yet begun doing that, but I probably will be doing it soon. When I get up from a sitting position, finally standing upright, I look around to see if there might be someone applauding my efforts. In my mind I can hear their cheers and catch myself mumbling, “Thank you. Thank you very much.” Click here.
oldmankid1.jpgIf I get down to the floor level looking for something or trying to pick up something that was dropped, the trip back to an upright position requires quite an effort. Needless to say, that doesn’t happen often. I remember as a child being asked by my grandfather to “see” something for him, or to find an object that had fallen to the ground or floor. I thought nothing of it as I did as I was asked, jumping down and springing up. Those were the days.
I used to have periodic bouts with bad knees. They became very painful in spells that lasted usually for several days, sometimes longer. As the pain increased, I went to the cane. If it became more painful and difficult to get around, I would go to the crutches. All this happened less frequently with time. It has not happened in a long time. I don’t have those problems any more.
I had a problem once upon a time with my foot. The usual treatment for that specific condition is surgery, but in some cases a steroid shot can help. I opted for the shot and have not had a problem since, and that happened many years ago.
Success with a lesser treatment was something I experienced when I had a heart attack 16 years ago. Treatment can be open heart surgery or placement of a stint. In my case, the stint was all I needed. When I returned for a checkup and all tests were good, the doctor almost appeared surprised, and said, “Well, sometimes it works.” Evidently it works well, because I’m OK.
Last year I lost my appetite and, as a result, I lost a lot of weight. All tests showed no problem. After a few months, food started tasting good, and I’m now well on my way toward being fat again, and I’m enjoying food. I have a feeling that there are people out there praying for me. Thank you very much. By the grace of God and In response to your prayers for me, in my old age the song below expresses how I feel today.

Exciting Arrangement by The Martins

REDEEMED, HOW I LOVE TO PROCLAIM IT
Words, Frances J. Crosby
Music, William J. Kirkpatrick
1882
Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.
Refrain:
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child and forever I am.
Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.
I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of Him all the day long:
I sing, for I cannot be silent;
His love is the theme of my song.
I know I shall see in His beauty
The King in whose law I delight;
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
And giveth me songs in the night.
I know there’s a crown that is waiting
In yonder bright mansion for me,
And soon, with the spirits made perfect,
At home with the Lord I shall be.
