This song was written as a testimony to serving the Lord a lifetime. The Gaithers have served the Lord for 53 years since composing it. They sang it in 1965 because they loved serving the Lord. They sing it today because they have found the words to be true in experience as well as faith.
This is an anniversary for me–seventy years since preaching my first sermon, “Living As Jesus,” from Philippians 2:5-11, (Sept 5, 1948) at the Liberty Road Baptist Church in Houston. The Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside, where I currently am preaching, will celebrate the anniversary and my 87th birthday (Sept 24) at the 5th Sunday Fellowship Dinner on September 30.
