You Raise Me Up

Monday’s blog was about having a friend who always stands by you. Tuesday’s blog was about the kind of friendship that always reaches the heart. Today, we hear Josh Groban sing “You Raise Me Up.” This song emphasizes the strength given to us by real friends.

You Raise Me Up
Brendan Graham / Rolf Lovland
When I am down, and, oh, my soul, so weary
When troubles come, and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Of course the one who raises us up is Jesus. He helps us in ways no one else can even try. In 1905, Charles Gabriel wrote a song about it, presented here as a poem:

HE LIFTED ME

In loving-kindness Jesus came,
My soul in mercy to reclaim,
And from the depths of sin and shame
Through grace He lifted me.
From sinking sand He lifted me,
With tender hand He lifted me;
From shades of night to plains of light,
Oh, praise His Name, He lifted me!
