Phubbing

The online Merriam-Webster Dictionary is in the process of observing a word and evaluating its qualifications to be included as a word in the dictionary. The word is “Phubb,” sometimes spelled, “Phub.” It is a combination of two words: “Phone” and “Snub.” You are “phubbing” if you give your attention to your phone and ignore the person with you.
I suggest there ought to be another word coined to describe what a person is doing when he is in a public restaurant yelling into his cell phone. Sometimes he’s sitting at the next table and sometimes on the other side of the room, but his end of the conversation is loudly broadcast to every person there.
I enjoy thinking positively and encouraging others, so I am positive I want to encourage cell phone users to be courteous to others.
