Recently I posted a blog that quoted Robert Frost, “I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.” As I think about that quotation, I think about my own promises, especially my promises to the Lord. Am I keeping my promises to Him? Are you?
One great promise that includes just about everything in my life is a verse of “Wherever He Leads I’ll Go.” I love that song. But I have to ask myself, “Am I keeping the promise I make when I sing it?” I’m thinking of this one: “My heart, my life, my all I bring to Christ who loves me so. He is my Master, Lord and King–wherever He leads I’ll go.” I’ve made that promise. Am I keeping it? Perhaps you, too, have sung this verse to the Lord–do you mean it?
You and I are like Robert Frost: we have “promises to keep.”
When we make promises to the Lord, we’re only returning to Him what He has first given to us, His promises. What promises, you may ask? How about this one: “I will never leave you nor forsake you?” (Hebrews 13:5).
Think about that for a few moments. He will never leave us. He will never forsake us. He will always love us. We cannot ask for anything better. All we can do is make the same promise to Him.
Standing on His promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God..
