One Day At A Time

As stated in previous blogs, I have experienced several hurricanes. The first one that I can recall from experience was on my tenth birthday in Houston in 1941. There had been others in that city during my first ten years of life, but I suppose back then I was unaware of the weather, so I don’t remember them.
I will surely remember Harvey. Like so many others, there were moments during the storm when I wondered, “Is this it?” But the storm passed by. Its effects, however, remain, and many people are struggling each day to put their lives back together.
Most of us, however, have one thing in common. We try to find meaning and purpose in life events. We do this each day.

I plan to live the rest of my life one day at a time. I will be asking the Lord each day to help me make His way mine.

There is a song about taking life one day at a time. That’s what we do, whether we want to do it that way or not. Yet I think we can become impatient and restless, robbing ourselves of peace within if we do not live our lives one day at a time, as Jesus urged us to do. The way he put it, “..seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:33-34 NIV).

Back to the song. Here it is:

One Day At A Time
Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson

“I’m only human I’m just a man
Help me to believe in what I could be and all that I am
Show me the stairway that I have to climb
Lord for my sake teach me to take one day at a time.

One day at a time sweet Jesus that’s all I’m asking from you
Give me the strength to do everyday what I have to do
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus and tomorrow may never be mine
So for my sake teach me to take one day at a time.

Do you remember when you walked among men
Well Jesus you know if you’re looking below
It’s worse now than then
Pushing and shoving, crowding my mind
So for my sake teach me to take one day at a time.

One day at a time sweet Jesus that’s all I’m asking from you
Give me the strength to do everyday what I have to do
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus and tomorrow may never be mine
So for my sake teach me to take one day at a time.

Yes, just for my sake teach me to take one day at a time...
