International Sun Glasses Day

Today is International Sun Glasses Day.
Why wear sun glasses? Some people would say “because it looks cool.” O.K., maybe it does give the wearer a Hollywood look, but that’s not the reason for International Sun Glasses Day.
The reason is to help protect your vision.
If possible, you should get yours as a prescription from your optical physician. It would probably be a good investment, because we are talking about protecting your eyes. And that’s very important.
Cheap sun glasses that only darken what you see may do more harm than good because the darkened pupils open up and let more ultra violet rays into the eye, and uv rays do damage. The special day for sun glasses has the goal in mind of protection from the uv rays. We should make sure that our sun glasses provide that protection.

Protecting our vision is just one more example of Christian stewardship. God has been good in giving us life, and we want to show our appreciation by taking care of ourselves. As Christians we have the added incentive of knowing that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and therefore belongs to the Lord. As the apostle put it “you are not your own.” We can glorify the Lord by caring for our physical being. Please protect your eyes.
