June 18, 2017 (Sunday)
This hymn was written for the Brotherhood Movement by Dr. William P. Merrill, long time pastor of the Brick Presbyterian Church in New York. Music was composed by Dr William H. Walter, organist for a time at Columbia University.
On this Fathers Day, 2017, we focus on the men in families. A good father is one who loves God with all his heart, and who loves his wife and children. He follows Biblical principles in his home and seeks to be dedicated to Christ himself while leading his loved ones to love Jesus.
Text: William P. Merrill, 1867-1954 Music: William H. Walter, 1825-1893 1911 Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength to serve the King of kings. Rise up, O men of God! The kingdom tarries long. Bring in the day of brotherhood and end the night of wrong. Rise up, O men of God! The church for you doth wait, her strength unequal to her task; rise up, and make her great! Lift high the cross of Christ! Tread where his feet have trod. As brothers of the Son of Man, rise up, O men of God! |
