Yesterday’s blog included the song, “I Can Only Imagine,” which suggested what it may be like when we first stand before Jesus in Heaven. This song, “Face to Face with Christ, My Savior,” written more than a century earlier, expresses the same wonder and awe.
Carrie Ellis Breck was born January 22,1855 in Vermont and raised in a Christian home. She later moved to Vineland, New Jersey, and then to Portland, Oregon. She wrote verse and prose for religious and household publications, In 1884 she married Frank A. Breck. She has written between fourteen hundred and fifteen hundred hymns. She died in 1934.

Face to Face with Christ, My Savior
Words by Carrie E. Breck
Music by Grant C. Tullar
1898

Refrain:
Face to face I shall behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory,
I shall see Him by and by!
Verses:
Face to face with Christ, my Savior,
Face to face–what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ who died for me?
Only faintly now I see Him,
With the darkened veil between,
But a blessed day is coming,
When His glory shall be seen.
What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
Death is swallowed up in vict’ry,
And the dark things shall be plain.
Face to face–oh, blissful moment!
Face to face–to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ who loves me so.
