Do you believe?
JANUARY 22, 2008 (TUESDAY)
A hymn acknowledges that we may suffer for Christ, but “it will be worth it all when we see Jesus. Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase, so bravely run the race till we see Christ.”
The words above comfort believers. Are you a believer? Do you believe in life after death?
Jesus said (in John 11:25-26 NIV) “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
The fact is, we began to live eternally at the moment we received Christ into our hearts. Jesus Himself told us, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24 NIV)
A great old song expresses this faith in the life beyond this one: “Some day the silver cord will break, and I no more as now shall sing, but, O the joy when I shall wake within the palace of the King! And I shall see Him face to face, and tell the story, saved by grace.”
William Jennings Bryan said, “If matter, mute and inanimate, though changed by the forces of nature into a multitude of forms, can never die, will the spirit of man suffer annihilation when it has paid a brief visit, like a royal guest, to this tenement of clay? No, I am as sure that there is another life as I am that I live today.”
Thoughts of Heaven are more precious to us every day because our loved ones are there.
So, “sing the wondrous love of Jesus. Sing His mercy and His grace. In the mansions bright and blessed, He’ll prepare for us a place. When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!”
