Pre-Easter Theme: What Jesus Taught Us

Theme for this week: God Loves the World Through Us

One of the greatest things that Jesus ever said was, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 ESV).

This saying of Jesus has been quoted so many times that very few people are unfamiliar with it. It has been called, “The gospel in one verse.” And it is. This is the heart of all our beliefs as Christians.

when Jesus said, “My Church,” He was speaking of that great host of people who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, from New Testament days to the present time. It includes future believers as well. Here is what God said to His people long ago, through the prophet, Isaiah, “Thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1 ESV). God was speaking to His people, known as “Israel.” Today God’s people are known as the “Church,” because they have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In the book of Romans, Paul explained that both Jews and Gentiles have sinned, falling short of the glory of God, but He went on to tell us that both Jews and Gentiles have a Savior and His name is Jesus.

As Christians, we have many things to share with our world, but most of all, it is “”God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 ESV).
