Pre-Easter Theme: What Jesus Taught Us
Theme for this week: We Can Love God
The poor little boy was gazing through the window of a candy store. He lingered long. Slowly but surely an uncle of the boy stood by him. He asked the boy if he would like to have come candy. “Oh, yes,” the boy replied. “I would love that!” Together they went into the store. The nice uncle paid a price and the nice man behind the counter asked the boy what kind of candy he wanted. The lad pointed out his choice. After the proprietor sacked the candy, with a broad smile he handed the boy the bag of candy. Jovially, he smiled a question to the lad, “May I have a piece?” Suddenly the boy grimaced, “No!” Holding the bag close to his chest, he turned and ran to the door, crying out, “Mine!”
The story just told might be a good one to tell a small class, then invite discussion.
Discussions might examine the story from many angles, but the main point is that the boy suddenly became selfish. The bare facts are that he was needy, he had his needs supplied, and then he refused to share. Believe it or not, some of us are much like that little boy.
if we think about the story a little while, we might recognize ourselves in the boy. Our hearts cry out for many things, but sometimes when our needs have been supplied, we stop thinking about the needs of others.
Perhaps we had a longing in our hearts for God’s peace, we confessed our sins, were forgiven, received joy unspeakable and full of glory, testified that we had been born again and found out that we have a place in Heaven being prepared for us. Then what? Most people have such joy upon receiving Ghrist that they want to tell others about it. But, sad to say, some people gradually put all their focus on what has been done for them, forgetting that other people have not yet received Christ. They have suddenly learned to love God, but have not shared God’s love with someone else.
We can share the love of God for us with others. Someone has said that telling others about Christ is like a starving person who finds bread. What does he do? He tells others where he found the answer to his prayers. The same principle holds true for Christians. As the song says, “What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.” Share His Love.
Think of the following plan for telling others about Jesus. Just tell what happened to you. Say, “1. What my life was like before I got saved. 2.How I became aware of my need of Christ. 3. How I accepted Him as my Savior. 4. What my life has been like ever since. 5. Ask ‘Has anything like that ever happened to you?'” Simple, yes? Why not share your experience with someone? You’ll be glad you did. You will be sharing God’s Love.

Have you a heart that’s weary
Tending a load of care
Are you a soul that’s seeking rest
From the burden you bear?
Do you know my Jesus
Do you know my friend
Have you heard he loves you
And that he will abide till the end?
Who knows your disappointments
Who hears each time you cry
Who understands your heartaches
Who drys the tears from your eyes.
Do you know my Jesus
Do you know my friend
Have you heard he loves you
And that he will abide till the end?
Have you heard he loves you
And that he will abide till the end?
