Pre-Easter Theme: What Jesus Taught Us
Theme for this week: We Can Love Others
We begin this blog with The Great Commission:
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which
Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him,
but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the
end of the age” (Matthew 28:16-20 ESV).
Jesus then ascended to Heaven, where He now intercedes for us with
the Father.
Jesus prefaces His command to go and make disciples with a statement about his right to tell us what to do. He claimed, “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to me.” When Jesus was performing miracles during his brief ministry on earth, he was asked, “By what authority do you do these things?” At that time Jesus turned their question back upon themselves, and the question went unanswered. But today, as Jesus gives the Great Commission, the answer is clear: Jesus’ authority is given to Him by God our Heavenly Father. There can be no higher authority; therefore, we obey our Lord, Jesus Christ.
A popular question asked by Christians when faced with a decision is, “What would Jesus do?” But when we are face to face with Jesus’ clear command to make disciples, the question is changed to, “What will Jesus have me do?” The answer is clear, we are to spread the gospel message, which means we are to tell everyone that God loves them. The commandment given us by Jesus is twofold: “Love one another,” and “Tell all people that God loves them.”
Our situation is plain to see: We are commanded by the Lord to give this message (John 3:16): “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” We can tell everyone: “Whoever you are, please know that God loves you and wants to bless your life and give you an eternal Home in Heaven.” Sharing the gospel is not only our blessed privilege; it is our duty.
Taking the gospel to all nations means that we love everyone.
I’LL TELL THE WORLD THAT I’M A CHRISTIAN
I’ll tell the world, that I’m a Christian,
I’m not ashamed, His name to bear;
I’ll tell the world, that I’m a christian,
I’ll take Him with me anywhere.
I’ll tell the world, how Jesus saved me,
and how He gave me a life brand new;
And I know that if you trust Him,
that all He gave me, He’ll give to you.
I’ll tell the world, that He’s my Savior,
No other one, could love me so;
My life, my all is His forever,
and where He leads me I will go.
For when He comes, and life is over,
For those who love Him there’s more to be;
Eyes have never seen the wonders,
That He’s preparing, for you and me
Oh, tell the world, that you’re a Christian,
Be not ashamed, His name to bear;
Oh tell the world, that you’re a Christian,
And take Him with you anywhere.
