Pre-Easter theme: What Jesus Taught Us
Them this week: God loves us
March 16, 2022 (Wednesday)
Jesus was asked, “Which is the greatest commandment?” And He replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment” (Matthew 22:36-37 ESV).
As we study the teachings of Jesus, we have discovered that He taught us that God is our loving Heavenly Father who gives us a new beginning in life when we accept His Son as our Savior. By His grace we are “born again.”
OK, we have made the point that God is our Heavenly Father who has given us a fresh start in life through the new birth. Now what? It’s time for us to respond to God’s great love for us. And how do we respond? By loving Him with everything that is within us.
Our love for the Lord was not a new concept among the Jews. They had that commandment posted where it could be seen often, and even printed it, placing it in a little leather pouch they they wore for all to see.
A TV show once featured a lady who told people who had behaved badly or spoken harshly, “God’ll get you for that!” Of course, it brought laughs from the audience. But her admonishment was not a joke for some people, because their understanding of God is clear: “God is out to getcha.” No, no, no. Jesus taught us that God loves us and wants to bless and help us. If we confess our sins, God will forgive us.
If you accept Christ as your personal Savior, and you thank Him for blessing you, getting to know Him better through prayer and Bible study, your natural response will be to love Him.

I love you, Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship you,
O my soul, rejoice.
Take joy, my King,
In what you hear.
May it be a sweet, sweet sound
In your ear.
