October 23, 2016 (Sunday)
The words of this hymn came to us from William Paton Mackay, M.D., who was born at Montrose, May 13, 1839, and educated at the University of Edinburgh. After following his medical profession for a time, he became minister of Prospect Street Presbyterian Church, Hull, in 1868, and died from an accident, at Portree, Aug. 22, 1885. This hymn has always been a favorite among the churches in which I have served through the years. It is enjoyable to sing the chorus antiphonally, alternating between men and women, separate areas of the pews or various age groups, for example.
REVIVE US AGAIN
aka Hallelujah Thine the Glory
aka We Praise Thee O God
Words: William P. Mackay, 1863
Music: John J. Husband, 1815
We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.
Chorus:
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
We praise Thee, O God!
For Thy Spirit of light,
Who hath shown us our Savior,
And scattered our night.
All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who hath borne all our sins,
And hath cleansed every stain.
All glory and praise
To the God of all grace,
Who hast brought us, and sought us,
And guided our ways.
Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.
