Theme for this week: “It’s Your Time”
March 11, 2022 (Friday)
Jesus said: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work” (John 9:4).
Wake up! So says Paul in Romans 13. He speaks very clearly about practical matters. Yesterday’s blog was about our spiritual life, our personal relationship with God. What Paul says in Romans 13 is practical instruction for living the Christian life.
I’ve chosen the Living Bible translation to pass along Romans 13 to you, editing as I go so that this blog is as brief as possilble, because space is limited. Here’s what Paul says to you and me:
Be a good citizen. Trust the government. Obey the laws. Respect the police. Pay your taxes. Give honor and respect to whom it is due.
Pay all your debts except the debt of love for others—never finish paying that! Love does no wrong to anyone. That’s why it fully satisfies all of God’s requirements. It is the only law you need.
Time is running out. Wake up! Wake up for the Lord is coming. The night is far gone; the day of his appearing will soon arrive. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to help you live as you should, and don’t make plans to enjoy evil.
Wake up! I said, Wake up!
WE’RE MARCHING TO ZION
Words, Isaac Watts (1707)
Refrain by Robert Lowry
1867
Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.
Refrain:
We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.
The sorrows of the mind
Be banished from the place;
Religion never was designed
To make our pleasures less.
Refrain
Let those refuse to sing,
Who never knew our God;
But children of the heav’nly King
May speak their joys abroad.
Refrain
The men of grace have found
Glory begun below;
Celestial fruits on earthly ground
From faith and hope may grow.
Refrain
The hill of Zion yields
A thousand sacred sweets
Before we reach the heav’nly fields,
Or walk the golden streets.
Refrain
Then let our songs abound,
And every tear be dry;
We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground
To fairer worlds on high.
Refrain
