Bottled Water

Its a beautiful day for the race. Coca Cola is the favorite today, Pepsi is in there, A&W is at the gate, 7UP is three to one, and at 20 to 1, it’s Bottled Water. Now they are approaching the starting gate, and (bam) there they go! Coke is going to the front, Pepsi is ahead, A&W is 3rd by the rail, tied with 7UP, and..Bottled Water. Into the back stretch, Pepsi is now leading the pack, Coke is 2nd, very close, A&W is coming up through the crowd, with 7UP right behind, and .. Bottled Water. Around the turn, heading for home, it’s Coke and Pepsi in the stretch, 7UP is 3rd, A&W is 4th, and..Bottled Water. And now they come down to the wire, it’s Coke, no, it’s Pepsi, or is it 7UP, maybe A&W???…..NO! Its BOTTLED WATER!
Yes, folks, our country has spoken. More bottled water is being sold now than all the soda pops put together!

Why is this so? Are Americans concerned with health? Do they fear tap water contamination? No one knows the reason for sure, but the facts are there. Americans are this year for the first time expected to purchase more bottled water than traditional carbonated sodas. The researchers tell us that per capita purchase of bottled water is now 27.4 gallons, whereas per capita purchase of soft drinks is 26.2 gallons.
Everywhere you go, somebody has a bottle of water in his or her hand, with more in the purse or back pack.
So will we save money? After all, it would seem that water is cheaper than soda pop. Not so fast. At a convenience store a bottle of soda is either the same price or sometimes even less than a bottle of water, or so I’ve been told. I have not checked out the prices myself.
Every day, I identify more and more with the song that cries out, “This world is not my home, I’m just a passin’ through..” Lots of things in today’s world seem strange to me.
