When David Sapp was 16 years of age, in 1969, he was playing the piano at home. His father, Rev. Max Sapp, was reading aloud from Acts 2. Suddenly, they both realized that the music and the words of the Bible fit each other perfectly. It was the birth of, “There Is A River,” a very popular gospel song in churches for all the years since that day. They did not realize it at the time, but they were breaking new ground with others in a genre known as “Scripture-in-song.” Many thousands of people have been blessed by this beautiful song.
David and Max Sapp 1969 There was a thirsty woman who was drawing from a well, Her life was ruined and wasted, her soul was bound for hell. Then she met the Master He told of her great sin, And if you drink of this water, you will never thirst again. There is a river that flows from deep within, There came a sound from Heaven of a rushing mighty wind, There is a fountain that’s filled with His great love. Come to this water, there is a vast supply. There is a river that never shall run dry. |
