Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Henry Smith, from Williamsburg, Virginia, wrote the praise song, “Give Thanks,” at a time in his life (born 1952) when he felt “poor” and “weak,” words which appear in the song. He had completed college but was having great difficulty finding work. He was diagnosed with a serious eye problem and told he would eventually become blind. And yet he gave thanks. In 1978 he wrote a song about it.
Henry Smith 1978 Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks unto the Holy One Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son. Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks unto the Holy One Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son. And now let the weak say, “I am strong” Let the poor say, “I am rich” Because of what the Lord has done for us. And now let the weak say, “I am strong” Let the poor say, “I am rich” Because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks Give thanks. |
