The Little Fox, Imperfection

Theme for week: Faith and The Little Foxes

January 21, 2022 (Friday)

(Every time I read Song of Solomon 2:15 (“Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines”), I am reminded that small things can do big damage. The blogs this week are about how our faith can help us overcome sins that may seem small to us, but can cause us much heartache).

When chided for remaining quiet during a conversation, a new Christian replied, “I’m sorry, but you have to remember that I lost half my vocabulary when I got saved!” It’s time for honesty today as we examine the subject of our own imperfection being one of those pesky “little foxes that spoil the vines.” Perhaps before you even gave it a thought, one of your old profanities surfaced, or maybe it was a deed left over from the days when you did not know Christ as Savior. At any rate, you disappointed yourself by returning, temporarily, to your old ways. What now? Well, the Bible says we’re lying to ourselves if we believe we never sin, but “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” ( 1 John 1:9 NIV).

Only Jesus, of all the people who ever lived, is sinless. All the rest of us have sinned and come short of God’s glory. If our goal was to be perfect like God, we missed that mark a long, long time ago. We are saved by grace, which is the unmerited mercy of God. We are not saved by works, in which case we might brag about saving ourselves, but we are all saved the same way, by grace through faith.

Jesus taught us to pray, “Forgive us our debts,” which means forgive our sins. This is the daily prayer of the sincere Christian. We do not want to sin, nor plan to sin, but somehow, even in ways of which we may be unaware, we sin. So we confess our sin and he cleanses us, giving us a new beginning.

Remind Me Dear Lord

The things that I love, and hold dear to my heart
Are just borrowed they’re not mine at all.
Jesus only lets me use them to brighten my life.
So remind me remind me dear Lord.
Roll back the curtain of memory now and then.
Show me where you brought me from and where I could have been.
Just remember I’m a human, and humans forget.
So remind me, remind me dear Lord.

Nothing good have I done to deserve God’s own son.
I’m not worthy of the scars in his hands.
Yet he chose the road to calvary to die in my stead.
Why he loved me I can’t understand.
Roll back the curtain of memory now and then.
Show me where your brought me from and where I could have been.
Just remember I’m a human and humans forget.
So Remind me, remind dear Lord.
Just remember I’m human and humans forget.
So Remind me, remind dear Lord.
