Theme for week: Faith and The Little Foxes
January 17, 2022 (Monday)
Every time I read Song of Solomon 2:15 (“Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines”), I am reminded that small things can do big damage. The blogs this week will be about how our faith can help us overcome sins that may seem small to us, but can cause us much heartache.
This week we will take a look at five of these “little foxes.” The first is “anxiety”
The dictionary definition of anxiety is, “distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune.” This definition should also say that the “danger or misfortune” can be real or imagined. When the danger is real, the anxiety appears to be a normal reaction. But when the anxiety is brought by imagined dangers, then it’s time to ask why.
Let’s suppose you are feeling anxious and those feelings are causing you problems. Instead of searching for causes of the feelings, let us go straight to the Christian solution, found in the Bible: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-8 NIV).
Let’s take a look at those Bible verses. Here’s what they seem to be saying to me: 1. Be happy, 2. Calm down, 3. Claim God’s presence, 4. Be thankful for your blessings, 5. Praise the Lord in Prayer 6.Ask the Lord for help. Having done these things, accept the marvelous peace of God to stand guard at your heart and mind, combating all your anxiety.
(If you have severe anxieties that are interrupting your way of life, and do not respond to Biblical help described above, then by all means seek professional counseling).

Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.
Refrain:
Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!
What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,
Buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away,
While the years of eternity roll! ..Refrain
I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul! ..Refrain
And I think when I rise to that city of peace,
Where the Author of peace I shall see,
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing
In that heavenly kingdom will be:..Refrain
Ah soul, are you here without comfort and rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grow dark;
Oh, accept this sweet peace so sublime!..Refrain
