Theme for this week: “New Year 2022”
January 4, 2022 (Tuesday)
If I were to adopt a few New Year Resolutions, where would I start? What area of my life needs the most improvement? Perhaps a more basic question is what are the areas of my life?
Someone has come up with thirteen areas of life that we may improve, if we are willing to try:
Addiction and sobriety
Business, executive, and leadership
Career
Dating and relationship
Diet and fitness
Divorce
Family life
Financial
Health and wellness
Life skills
Mental health
Spirituality
Sports
There are people and firms which may be able to help you in one or more of these areas. The person helping you will be known as your “coach.”
I suppose a minister of the gospel can be known as a “coach.” When I suggested that idea to a local football coach, he reminded me that the minister’s won-loss record isn’t published every week. At least, it seemed that way to him. A number of fired ministers around the country might disagree.
If I am looking for a Scripture verse to help me attempt to live a better life in 2022 than I did in 2021, then perhaps Hebrews 12:1-2 would be a good one to choose: “..let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV).
The race has begun. Are you in the race? Are you seizing the days of opportunity for 2022? Do you need the Lord’s help in any of the areas of life named above? Let the final lines of a grand old hymn guide you: “Do then the best you can, not for reward, not for the praise of man, but for the Lord.” (Hymn, “Our Best”).
As you run the race of life today, why not let a verse of the hymn, “He Lives,” guide you:“I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the world today. I know that He is living, no matter what men say. I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, and just the time I need Him, He’s always near..He lives..!”
My prayer to our living Lord for 2022 is, “Let me walk each day with you. Lead me, O Lord, lead me.”

I am weak and I need thy strength and power
To help me over my weakest hour
Lead me through the darkness thy face to see
Lead me O Lord, Lead me.
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
Help me tread in the paths of righteousness.
Be my aid when Satan and sin oppress.
I am putting all my trust in Thee:
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
I am lost if you take your hand from me,
I am blind without Thy light to see.
Lord just always let me thy servant be,
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
