I Am Thine, O Lord

Also published as, “Draw Me Nearer,” the words of this hymn were written by Fanny Crosby, who wrote many of our most beloved hymns. It expresses the desire for a closer walk with God.
She was blinded by a physicians mistake when she was six weeks old. Her blindness never kept her from becoming a successful poet and model Christian. When she was 8 years old, she wrote a poem which became the motto of her life:

“O what a happy soul am I!
Although I cannot see,
I am resolved that in this world
Contented I will be.”

People would bring her tunes they had composed and ask her for a poem to fit the music. This is how most of her hymns were written.
