Reaching Forward

Theme for this week: “Moving On”

December 28, 2021 (Tuesday)

A familiar movie scene shows us two people in a fighting mode, fists held tightly, eyes staring at the opponent, teeth clenched, saying “OK, show me whatcha got!” Image you are one of the fighters and the year 2022 is the opponent. Are you facing the new year with that much confidence? “2020” was fierce; 2021 was tough, too, but what about you, “2022?”

Are you ready to face the new year? Are you like Paul, forgetting the past and pressing forward? I am reminded of a great verse in the Bible, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV). “Give it all you got” is probably what we would say today. Perhaps “Do your best” is the more refined way of encouraging somebody. Reminds me of the hymn, “Our Best:” Every work for Jesus will be blessed, but He asks from everyone his best. Our talents may be few, these may be small, but unto Him we give our best, our all.”

There is a verse in the Book of Acts which should inspire us to let our lives count for God. It goes like this: “Jesus went about doing good.” Jesus healed the sick and performed miracles, but I like the part of this verse which reminds us that He went about doing good. That’s something you and I can do. If we did not do that last year, let us resolve to do it in the new year but let us begin right now.

If we are still around at this time next year, may we be able to look back at 2022 and say we never gave up and we pressed forward in living our lives for Jesus. May we be able to say we heard the call and pressed forward, day after day, going about doing good and through it all, doing our very best. “..let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1 NIV).
