..It’s Sunday..see you in church?..

How do you feel on Sunday morning?

May 13, 2007 – Isn’t it strange how we create ideas that take on lives of their own? Like the days of the week?
TGIF: Thank God It’s Friday. A lot of people today know exactly what that means. As a pastor in Houston in recent years, I learned that Friday afternoon brings a glut of traffic with people leaving work early and heading for “someplace else” (any place will do).
Monday is called, “Blue Monday.” I wonder why? Ask all those drivers on their way to work.
Seems every day brings special feelings when we wake up in the morning and realize it’s Monday, Friday, Saturday, etc.
How do you feel on Sunday morning? Not everyone feels good. I recall the song, “Sunday Morning Sidewalk,” where the singer bemoans the rising sun and wishes he was “stoned,” because he feels so alone.
I know a little bit about that. When I was a kid, my parents slept until noon because they were “sleeping it off.” So I sat in front of the big old living room radio with the “funny papers” and listed to the voice from KTRH reading them to me. That was Sunday morning at our house back then.
But now Sunday is a different day for me. And for millions of others who go to church and worship the Lord on that day.
I propose a new slogan: TGIS (Thank God It’s Sunday). The experiences of Bible Study, Prayer, Singing, Giving, Fellowshiping, etc. with others on the Lord’s Day cannot be overvalued. It makes a difference for us every morning for the rest of the week. And soon it’s Sunday again. Thank you, Lord.
This Sunday is Mother’s Day. See you in church?
