Today is Palm Sunday, the first day of Holy Week, which is the way many Christians describe the last week of Jesus’ life of ministry.

The week begins with Jesus riding a donkey into the city of Jerusalem, weeping over the sins of Jerusalem, and many people shouting “Hosanna,” as they spread palm branches and pieces of their clothing in His path. During the day Jesus visited the Temple and was grieved to see a holy place becoming a market place, with the sights, sounds and smells of animals as their sellers and the money changers hawked their wares. He returned to Bethany at the end of the day, broken-hearted over what He had seen and heard. On Friday He would be crucified. In one week He would rise from the dead. Six weeks after that, He would ascend to His Father in Heaven.
Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman, famous preacher of days gone by, wrote this beautiful hymn, which gives us the entire gospel within its verses. It describes the events of this special week with reverence and devotion.

ONE DAY
J. Wibur Chapman
1908

Chorus:
Living, He loved me;
Dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever:
One day He’s coming–O glorious day!
Verses:
One day when heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin–
Dwelt among men, my example is He!
One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected;
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He.
One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He.
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered;
Now is ascended, my Lord evermore.
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glory will shine;
Wonderful day, my beloved ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine!
